RBPD Hosts 'The Line Up' Surf Contest In Redondo Beach

Surf's up! The contest includes all levels of surfers, from first timers to professionals.

REDONDO BEACH, CA — The Redondo Beach Police Department will host its second annual surf contest on Saturday, May 4 at the beach adjacent to the 1800 block of the Esplanade.

"We hope that you will join us for a great day at the beach supporting Special Olympic Athletes, Wounded Heroes of America and the Redondo Beach Police Foundation," Redondo Beach police said in a press release.

“The Line Up” surf contest is based on a unique surf team competition format that includes all levels of surfers, from first timers to professionals, the press release said. The event is meant to promote safety and build a positive relationship between local surfers and law enforcement.

Partnerships with several local businesses and the Redondo Beach Police Foundation has allowed RBPD to organize this unique outreach program, the press release said.

"This distinctive team combination and setting will use the ocean’s power and our community’s love of surfing to build relationships and unite," RBPD said. "Our amazing sponsors will be giving away cool surf prizes while you have the opportunity to experience what having fun while giving back to the community is all about."

Surfers can register online here or at local surf shops. Registered participants will receive a free T-shirt and lunch. There will be prizes, time for free surfing, friendly competition and awards. Space is limited and registration closes May 1.
