PALOS VERDES, CA — Twenty-five graduating seniors from the class of 2020 wrapped six years and an impressive 16,000-plus hours of community service with the Peninsula Chapter of the National Charity League in the Palos Verdes area.

Participating in the mother-daughter philanthropic organization since seventh grade and through high school, the young women, known as "Ticktockers," devoted their time and efforts to a variety of such local causes as the arts, the environment, schools, the elderly and needy.

"These young women worked tirelessly with grace, dignity and empathy to serve our community,"said Christine Pearson, NCL Peninsula president. "Our Ticktockers are positive, involved and hopeful. They are our next generation of leaders and will have a positive effect upon society.”

Some of the Ticktockers worked with underprivileged students and provided clothing, meals, childcare and support to those in need. Others assisted occupational therapists, special needs teachers and summer school programs, played bingo with the elderly, helped restore natural habitat through the Palos Verdes Land Conservancy and Heal the Bay, ushered at the Palos Verdes Performing Arts Theatre, volunteered at Palos Verdes Art Center, served as Cabrillo Marine Aquarium docents and placed homeless animals into forever homes.

Additional activities included volunteering at MADD walks, hosting a military gift-giving event through Operation Homefront, knitting hats and making blankets for those in need.

The Ticktockers, along with their mothers, also worked at the Peninsula Chapter’s Ticktocker Thrift Shop in San Pedro. Over the past six years, the shop raised and disbursed more than $1.2 million to South Bay organizations and four-year college scholarships, the organization said.

“We are proud of our senior class and wish them continued success in their future endeavors," Pearson added.

The Peninsula Chapter of NCL was chartered in 1958 as part of the National Charity League, established in 1925, a charity organization made up of mothers and their daughters in grades 7-12. For more information on the local group, follow this link.
