South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide December 19, 2019
The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area.

I mentioned last week that things would calm down considerably by mid-month. You’ll notice that this Weekend Guide is about a third of the size of the last few weeks – but there are still several fantastic events you don’t want to miss! Now, the shopping starts in earnest, and I can vouch for that because I haven’t been able to find a parking space in any of the retail districts since the free parking went into effect. (I’ve tried riding my bicycle to avoid dealing with finding a parking space but my basket can only hold so much.) I need to do my gift shopping early since most of them have to be shipped, but I still have a few things on my list, including those all-important hostess/host gifts! I enjoy hosting the occasional soiree but I much prefer being a guest, and I so appreciate it when friends include us in their celebrations. So, here’s to holiday celebrations and I’d like to wish each of you a very Merry Christmas and Happy Chanukah!
The 1200 block of East Acacia Avenue in El Segundo magically transforms into Candy Cane Lane every holiday season since 1919! The homes are festooned with lights and decorations beginning Saturday, December 14. The street will be closed to through traffic through December 23 but most houses will still have their lights up through New Year’s. The lights are generally on until about 10 p.m. For details, visit the Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/pages/Candy-Cane-Lane/419745054757000. The 1200 block of East Acacia Avenue is located west of Sepulveda and south of Imperial Highway in El Segundo.
Taking place for over 40 years, the Sleepy Hollow Christmas Lights Extravaganza (also known as Candy Cane Lane) is one of the largest holiday decorations displays in the country. You can walk or drive through the neighborhood reveling in the sights, sounds and scents of the season. It’s a wonderful way to spend the evening and one the entire family will enjoy and remember for years to come. The wildly extravagant decorations are on display from December 1 through January 1 from about 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. You don’t want to miss this! For additional information and directions, visit http://www.yelp.com/biz/sleepy-hollow-christmas-lights-torrance.
