South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide December 21, 2017
The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area.

I’m thoroughly enjoying the whole holiday spirit thing this year! We managed to get the cards mailed, the tree trimmed and the house decorated, in addition to attending several of the big, local, holiday events and a few holiday parties. I’ve also put the news on hold and have been listening to the sounds of the season while I’m at my desk. Yes, it is possible to hear 20 different versions of Jingle Bells in one afternoon and not get annoyed. Now that’s what you call holiday spirit! We travelled last month to spend Thanksgiving with family, so we’ll be in town for Christmas and New Year’s and will be celebrating with great friends who have invited us to their homes to share in the festivities. On a very personal note, my family faced some difficulties this year with many hard decisions having to be made, and I’m grateful everything turned out better than could have possibly been expected. I have much to be thankful for and feel very fortunate as this year comes to an end. I want to wish each of you a wonderful holiday season and thank you again for your support of the website!

This holiday season, the Torrance Police Department will work around the clock to keep drivers and passengers safe as they search for impaired drivers. From December 15, 2017 through January 1, 2018, law enforcement is partnering with the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) and National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) in a special year-end Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over enforcement mobilization to get impaired drivers off the street and spread the word about this dangerous crime. As part of the holiday enforcement campaign period, police, sheriff and the CHP will be deploying DUI Checkpoints and DUI Saturation Patrols during the upcoming 18 day DUI crackdown throughout the region. The Torrance Police Department is conducting DUI Saturation Patrols on December 15, 29, and 30, and a DUI Checkpoint on December 21. “Two simple words can keep your holiday festivities safe – plan ahead,” said OTS Director Rhonda Craft. “Before you head out to any celebration, plan how you are getting home safely. If you are drinking, that means knowing what sober driver or service you’ll be using.” Drivers are encouraged to download the Designated Driver VIP, or “DDVIP,” free mobile app for Android or iPhone. The DDVIP app helps find nearby bars and restaurants that feature free incentives for the designated sober driver, from free non-alcoholic drinks to free appetizers and more. Funding for this DUI operation is provided by a grant from the California OTS, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, reminding everyone to ‘Report Drunk Drivers” – Call 9-1-1. https://www.southbaybyjackie.com/south-bay-jackie-weekend-guide-2
