Community Corner

South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide March 19, 2020

The South Bay by Jackie Weekend Guide offers comprehensive coverage of the greater South Bay area.

For more than eight years, South Bay by Jackie.com has kept the community informed of all the incredible leisure activities and special events taking place in our seaside bubble. Due to the COVID-19 crisis, we’re temporarily switching gears to act as a clearing house for hyper-local news.
We’re now posting information to the website’s Daily Blog page from local governments and officials, healthcare providers, businesses, chambers of commerce, non-profit orgs and service groups, and anyone else with important information to share. In order to distribute all of this information in a timely manner, we’re posting multiple announcements to the Daily Blog page each day.
As most of you know, every South Bay event scheduled through the end of March has been cancelled or postponed. Just in case anyone has been living under a rock the last couple of weeks, I’ve kept all the current calendar events posted to the website with a CANCELLED or POSTPONED notice in the title line. There are still several events scheduled for April and May which will be reevaluated by the host organizations in the coming weeks and we’ll update the website as we receive that information.
In addition, The South Bay Show podcast will have the same focus for the foreseeable future. We encourage anyone that wants to share information or just let us know how you’re doing, to call in to the show at 714-242-5288 every Thursday morning between 8 and 9 a.m. We’re all in this together and we’ll get through this together, even though we can’t physically be together – but we still need to communicate! So don’t be shy, if you have something to share, call in!
In the meantime, listed below are South Bay websites with information and updates on operations and procedures regarding COVID-19.

Other Local News Re: COVID-19
County officials are planning to use Dockweiler RV Park, an area on the beach just south of LAX, as a coronavirus isolation zone for people who are ordered to quarantine or isolate but are not sick enough to be hospitalized, especially those who are homeless with nowhere else to stay. The area is under the jurisdiction of Los Angeles County, but on Sunday the City of El Segundo warned the public not to go north of 12505 Vista Del Mar, where the Youth Center and Beach Cafe are located. About 25 RVs have been set up as of Tuesday, with 25 more being delivered each day and a plan to have all in place by Thursday, according to a bulletin sent to El Segundo city staff. If you have questions or concerns, contact Janice Hahn, LA County Supervisor at 213-974-4444 or via email at FourthDistrict@bos.lacounty.gov.

YOU’LL WANT TO SCHEDULE A FUTURE SHOOT WITH GLORIA NOW,
CAUSE ONCE THIS IS OVER, WE’LL ALL NEED NEW HEAD SHOTS.

As you can imagine, we’re being slammed with information from a variety of sources, but we believe the above lists are a good place to start. Information is key and we’ll do our very best to keep you informed.
HEY, IT’S NOT ALL DOOM AND GLOOM! I’m not at all amazed at the outreach from neighbors and how the community is coming together to support small, local businesses. You can buy gift cards/certificates NOW for future use at your favorite restaurant, salon, pet shop, fitness studio, boutique, gallery, coffee house, etc. One more thing you might consider – continue paying anyone that provides a service, such as a house keeper, dog walker, gardener, baby sitter, etc. If you can, make payments now as credit for future service and it will help get them through this unprecedented crisis.
And since we all enjoy freebies…. Riviera Seafood Club is offering a complimentary pound of tuna through their website at https://rivieraseafoodclub.com/. Use code “FREETUNAFORALL” at checkout. No purchase is necessary but you will be charged for shipping. FYI – if you order other items adding up to $65 or more, you'll get free shipping.
Stay well, be safe and take care. #SouthBayStrong
