Everything you want to know about what is happening in the South Bay of Los Angeles

I hope you’re sitting down….. I’ve only just learned there will be no Lobster Festival in Redondo Beach this year. The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce has been hosting the wildly popular event for decades, but due to recent political developments in that city, they are no longer able to. A little history…. In Redondo, the Chamber served the business community and was also the official Visitor’s Bureau, and for many years, the Chamber received funding from the city’s TOT (Transient Occupancy Tax). There are a number of players (chief among them, the ROW group) that are outspokenly anti-Chamber. Why anyone would be against an organization that supports local business is beyond me. Anyway, when the no-growth City Council Members were voted into office, one of the first things they did was remove the Chamber’s TOT funding and dissolve the Visitors Bureau. In the past, the City supported the Lobster Festival by waiving fees for city resources (police, etc.) because it was a fantastic way to promote the city. Lobster Fest became synonymous with Redondo and people came from all over to enjoy the festivities and tasty crustaceans. Now the City has withdrawn those waivers for the event. The no-growth City Council Members and their constituents have made it abundantly clear they don’t want people coming to Redondo, nor do they support the Chamber or local business. This is a sad, sad, state of affairs.
