I’m fortunate and grateful to be spending time with my mother (and sisters) as I write this – and I’m thrilled to celebrate this Mother’s Day with four generations of my favorite women in the world. Here’s to good women – may we know them, may we be them, may we raise them!
The South Bay Adult School is offering a FREE Active Shooter Training Class this morning, Thursday, May 5 from 7 to 9 a.m. Sponsored by the Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce and the City of Redondo Beach, the class is specifically intended for Redondo Beach business owners, managers and employees. This training is designed to prepare you in the event there is an Active Shooter where you are. You must be prepared both mentally and physically to deal with this situation. The training will get you thinking, provide options for you, what to do as law enforcement arrives and what information to provide 911 operators. This type of training awareness can be applied anywhere including malls, theaters, restaurants, etc. This is the world we live in and it’s always a good idea to be prepared for any possibility. Women from the South Bay and beyond are invited to the third annual South Bay Women’s Conference: Inspiring Women on Friday, May 6. Organized by the South Bay Business Women’s Association (SBBWA), this full-day event will welcome purpose-driven and service-minded women into a motivational environment of empowerment, respect, laughter and learning, while providing college scholarships to South Bay women in need. Attendees will experience inspiring and educational speakers in both General Session and interactive break-out programs. The day will include introduction of past scholarship recipients, networking during a three-course lunch, and specialty boutique vendors. The event will culminate with a high energy networking reception, ensuring many lasting connections. The South Bay Women’s Conference will be held from 8:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Torrance Marriott South Bay. The ticket price is $115 per person. The Richstone Family Center presents the annual Affair of the Heart: Into the Future on Saturday, May 7 at 6:00 p.m. at Audi Pacific in Torrance. This year’s event will feature fabulous wines, special martinis, a sumptuous dinner, experiences and live and silent auctions. California’s first and longest running house raffle is back for its thirteenth year – the 2016 Palos Verdes Dream House Raffle. In 2003, the Palos Verdes Art Center started the first and best California house raffle which sold out in days and it continues with the most dynamic top prize to date – a modern masterpiece residence designed by Pierre Koenig worth $3,595,000, plus $2,000,000 in cash. Tickets are $150 each. Raffle proceeds benefit the Art Center’s ongoing visual arts education, exhibition, community and outreach programs.
