The South Bay hosts an astounding variety of special events and activities year round!

There are several fantastic fundraisers, supporting extremely worthy causes, taking place over the next few days. It has been said (and I absolutely believe it) that Americans are the most generous people in the world…. and the populace of the South Bay may just be the most munificent. If you haven’t yet made plans for the weekend, buy a ticket and attend one of these functions. You’ll have a ton of fun while using your powers for good!
Roman Aroma will host a Wine Tasting on Friday, September 14 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. The evening will feature Italian wines from the Roma, Veneto and Piedmont regions. Sommelier Gessica Guidi will be pouring and answering questions. As always, delicious snacks will be available. Herron Entertainment presents the Brewery Comedy Tour on Friday, September 14 from 7 to 9 p.m. at Absolution Brewing. The Palos Verdes Art Center presents the final Malaga Cove Summer Art Show on Saturday, September 15 and Sunday, September 16 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Malaga Cove. The event features paintings, jewelry, ceramics, photography, wearable art and prints from artists from the seven art groups affiliated with Palos Verdes Art Center: Artists Open Group, Pacific Arts Group, Paletteers, Palos Verdes Painters, Peninsula Artists, Photographic and Digital Artists, and Third Dimension. The annual Lawndale Blues Festival will take place on Saturday, September 15 at 11 a.m. at Jane Addams Park. Sponsored by the City of Lawndale, the Festival will showcase the music of The Brooks Project featuring Gregg Wright, Awesome Blue, The Lawndale Blues Boys, Electric Caravan and Moondog. Guests are encouraged to bring lawn chairs, blankets and picnic baskets. Alcohol is prohibited and food will be available for purchase. It’s a fantastic opportunity to enjoy some great music with family, friends and neighbors in the heart of the South Bay! Betty’s Foundation presents Remember the Music Festival on Saturday, September 15 from 1:30 to 6:30 p.m. at Ernie Howlett Park in conjunction with the City of Rolling Hills Estates City Celebration. This is an all ages festival showcasing artists inspired by the sounds of American roots music. The event will have lawn seating, a VIP tent, food trucks, beer vendors, arts and crafts, children activities, line dancing, silent auction, raffle and more. The event features two award-winning bands, Gethen Jenkins and Honey County. Remember the Music is an annual roots music festival benefiting Alzheimer’s disease research organized by Betty’s Foundation, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. No outside beverages allowed. Out of courtesy for others in attendance please refrain from bringing EZup tents, large umbrellas, or other similar shade structures. Ticket prices range from $15 to $60. The Torrance Holistic Fair takes place on Saturday, September 15 from 2 to 6 p.m. at Cosmic Brewery. Attendees can visit with a variety of holistic practitioners including card readers, astrologists, Reiki healers, life coaches, nutritional health experts, and more. Vendors will be offering readings and demonstrations to help you discover answers, clarify questions, and align your mind, body, and spirit. Are you ready to create your balanced, happy life? The El Segundo Auxiliary of Children’s Hospital Los Angeles presents the annual Wine Festival & Silent Auction on Saturday, September 15 from 5 to 7:30 p.m. The event takes place at the International Garden Center in El Segundo where guests will enjoy appetizers, refreshments, live band and an amazing silent auction! Switzer Learning Center hosts Boots, Brews & BBQ on Saturday, September 15 from 6 to 11 p.m. The South Bay’s biggest and best outdoor BBQ event of the year will be an adults-only, high spirited, western themed party for over 300 guests. Dust off your boots and put on a cowboy hat! Get ready to feast on smoked barbecue dishes, sample craft beers from local breweries, ride the mechanical bull, work on your aim at the shooting ranges, play blackjack, spin the Booze Wheel, partake in live and silent auctions, and dance the night away! The next South Bay Food Swap will take place on Sunday, September 16 beginning at 11 a.m. at The Honest Abe Cidery. South Bay Food Swap is an eclectic gathering of artisan food lovers, who exchange extraordinary, handmade and homegrown food creations. Their mission is to bring together the community by sharing a love and passion for creating, and growing, fabulous food representative of various cultures and world travels. A Food Swap is part silent auction/part village marketplace/part fun-loving open house. It’s a modern take on an old tradition. Your homemade creations become your own personal currency that you can use to swap with other participants. No cash is exchanged. Artisanal goodies change hands and everyone goes home happy and inspired. Anyone can participate! Home bakers/cooks, canners, gardeners, food bloggers, professional chefs, students…pretty much anyone who likes to grow, make, or share food. There are food swappers of all ages and cultures. All participants must be individuals trading goods that they made, grew, or foraged themselves. Some examples of popular food swap items include jams, pickles, salsa or relishes, baked goods, granola, spice mixes, homemade pasta, vegetables or herbs. The sky is the limit. The Torrance-South Bay YMCA presents a Music is in the Air on Sunday, September 16 from noon to 3 p.m. at a private residence in Torrance. It will be a delightful afternoon of wonderful music, along with cheese and wine tastings, in support of the Torrance-South Bay YMCA. Guests will enjoy live entertainment by Andy Hill and Renee Safier whose unique sound and multi-instrumental skills will move you, your feet, and your heart.
