Assemblyman David Hadley has launched the 2016 “Stuff the Bus” school donation drive to provide new school supplies to benefit the South Bay’s K-12 students in the Gardena, Lomita, Harbor City, and Torrance areas. The “Stuff the Bus” campaign provides students with much needed school supplies who would otherwise go without the tools they need to help reach their academic potential. Last year’s “Stuff the Bus” effort raised more than $17,000 in school supplies. Individuals who would like to support this effort are encouraged to donate backpacks, binders, notebooks, paper, pens, pencils, rulers, calculators, and other basic materials. Assemblyman Hadley invites the community to donate school supplies at one of several community drop-off locations from June 17 through July 29:

Walmart: 22015 Hawthorne Blvd., Torrance, CA 90503
Gardena Valley Chamber of Commerce: 1204 West Gardena Boulevard, Suite E, Gardena, CA 90247

Some sad news to report……Last week, Chef Michael Schafer announced the closing of Buffalo Fire Department in Torrance. Anyone familiar with Chef Schafer knows how active he is in the community. For so many years he’s helmed The Depot; managed the twice monthly Torrance Artisan & Flea Market; hosted the monthly South Bay Blues Open and weekly Concerts in the Courtyard; all this, in addition to supporting numerous fundraisers and special events held throughout Torrance. Buffalo Fire Department was a neighborhood joint where everybody really did know your name. The food was always top-notch, it was comfortable and family friendly. It will be missed. Fortunately, Chef Schafer isn’t going anywhere. We’ll still see him around town, at The Depot and at City Council meetings. He’s just taking one thing off his plate.
