I hope you all enjoyed Cinco de Mayo and Mother’s Day last week. I was out of town visiting family and had a wonderful time….but you know, it’s always good to return home - especially when you live in the South Bay. There are so many great events taking place this weekend and once again, we’ll have to pick and choose what to attend (big sigh). The spring season is in full swing - and just wait ‘til you see what’s on tap for the rest of the month!
The Manhattan Beach Chamber of Commerce presents the South Bay Business Leaders’ Summit today, Thursday, May 12 from7:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Summit will continue to build on the success of last year’s conference and focus on business and best business practices. The event will provide attendees with a day full of information, inspiration, and education all focused on business, along with a day of valuable networking for men and women. The Summit aims to build a legacy of solid, smart entrepreneurs and business people who come together once a year for the premiere business event in the South Bay. The exciting new format includes:

The Redondo Beach Chamber of Commerce presents the monthlyNetwork Café at the Chart House today, Thursday, May 12 from11:30 a.m. to noon. Enjoy good food while making new acquaintances and catching up with old friends. Bring a smile, bring an appetite and bring plenty of business cards. The South Bay Go Red for Women Luncheon will be held onFriday, May 13 at the Manhattan Beach Marriot. The event draws more than 300 business leaders, executives, medical professionals and community activists with the goal of raising $500,000. The Luncheon is an empowering event that focuses on preventing heart disease and stroke by promoting healthy lifestyles and raising money to support awareness, education and research of heart health in women. It begins mid-morning with an array of activities including health screenings, educational breakout sessions and a silent auction. At noon, guest will enjoy a heart healthy lunch, personal testimonies by women who have successfully battled heart disease, and a dynamic keynote presentation. The dress code is business casual and red attire is highly encouraged! Join the Redondo Beach Police Department for Coffee with a Copon Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the South Bay Galleria Mall, Center Court Area. The Redondo Beach Police Department and members of the community will come together in a friendly, informal environment to discuss community issues, build relationships and enjoy a good cup of coffee. All community members are invited to attend. Coffee with a Cop provides a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the police department’s work in Redondo Beach’s neighborhoods. Smackfest Events presents the inaugural Beach Cities Beer & Wine Festival on Saturday, May 14 from 2 to 6 p.m. at The Bay Club in Redondo Beach. The event will offer guests the opportunity to taste over 20 different local craft brews and fine wines in an ocean front venue. The Bay Club offers amazing views of the Redondo Beach Marina and it’s the perfect setting to showcase local wineries and breweries, in addition to restaurants serving a variety of food samples. The Women’s Club of Redondo Beach is proud to host the ninth annual Redondo Beach Firefighters Community Spaghetti Dinner on Saturday, May 14 from 4 to 8 p.m. The event will coincide with the Redondo Beach Fire Department Open House which takes place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and will culminate with the spaghetti dinner prepared and served by the Redondo Beach Firemen at the Woman’s Club historical clubhouse located across the street from the fire station at 400 South Broadway. The event features a silent auction, bake sale and entertainment. Tickets to the Community Spaghetti Dinner are $15 per person. Kids 8 and under eat for free. The Automobile Driving Museum will host the annual Woodie’s Picnic on Saturday, May 14 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Drive your classic Woodie and family and friends to the ADM for a day full of fun times, good food and great music! Attendees will enjoy live music by surf band, Jetpack, and Rounds Premium Burgers food truck. This event is open to the public but if you plan on attending with a Woodie, you’ll have to register. El Segundo Museum of Art will host Design Dating on Saturday, May 14 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Tired of dating apps and the LA single’s scene? The fourth annual Tour de Pier will take place at the Manhattan Beach Pier on Sunday, May 15. This unique fundraising event brings one of the hottest indoor fitness activities – stationary cycling – to the gorgeous outdoors. The Tour de Pier includes four 50 minute sessions beginning at 9 a.m. Participants will be overlooking the Manhattan Beach Pier and riding in place while taking in the historic Southern California ocean view. The area’s best instructors and celebrity guests will spin riders through five 50-minute sessions with energizing music and loads of excitement. Participants can ride solo for all four sessions or be a team captain and recruit up to three teammates to register and ride as a team. In addition to the cycling portion of the Tour de Pier, the event will include a Health Expo with a number of fitness and health related sponsors; a Fun Zone with games, moon bounces and more. The Cardio Kid Zone will have the little ones bouncing and riding as well. They also have tot-sized stationary bikes that kids ages 3 to 8 can hop on for a few minutes and join in the fun. No registration necessary. The Kiwanis Club will host a complimentary Bike Valet adjacent to the Expo. The Bike Valet will open at 8:00 am and all bikes need to be claimed by 2:00 p.m. The Tour de Pier is organized to raise funds for the cancer community including The Hirshberg Foundation for Pancreatic Cancer Research, the Uncle Kory Foundation and Cancer Support Community. El Segundo Museum of Art and AT&T present Family Day onSunday, May 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Bring your friends, family, and inner activist to join in PROTEST among ESMoA’s EXPERIENCE 21: PLAN. Why do people protest? What do you protest for? What does protest mean to you? Join the ESMoA team for a day of art making fun for all ages. The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m. and features a variety of craft beers from over 30 breweries, half a dozen wineries, live music, art fair and live and silent auctions.
