It’s turkey time! Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday for so many reasons – it involves food, family, friends and a four day weekend. What’s not to love?!? While our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Paris, remember to hold your loved ones close and tell them how thankful you are to have them in your life…..even if it’s through a mouthful of sweet potatoes.
The Point will be collecting Letters to Santa this holiday season. Just drop your letter in the mailbox near the lifeguard tower and receive a personalized letter from Santa himself! Letters can be dropped off from November 17 through December 10. All letters are guaranteed to be answered before Christmas Eve as long as the return address is included and legible. The Torrance Police Department will be working with the Special Olympics of Southern California to host a regional Tip-A-Cop Fundraiser at Joe’s Crab Shack in the Redondo Marina on Thursday, November 19 from 5 to 9 p.m. Members of the Torrance Police Department will work at Joe’s Crab Shack as hosts and servers and will be accepting tips (donations) from dinner patrons to benefit Special Olympics Southern California South Bay Athletes. Support your local law enforcement officers, enjoy fine food and have great fun for a very worthy cause. This is a very popular event and reservations are highly recommended! Donations are tax deductible and 100% of the tips from this event directly benefit local Special Olympics Southern California Athletes. LF boutique located in Downtown Manhattan Beach is having a Denim Drive. They’ll be collecting gently worn women’s denim that will be donated to the Downtown Women’s Center. This is a phenomenal center that does amazing things in the community providing homes, health care, a day center, and knowledge to get women back into the workforce. LF Boutique is the exclusive carrier of denim brand CARMAR. CARMAR does a denim drive each season to raise awareness for domestic violence. CARMAR will be giving $25 off a new pair of CARMAR denim in return for each donation. They’ll be collecting these donations from November 19 through November 21. Rotary presents the seventh annual USC vs. UCLA Tailgate Luncheon on Tuesday, November 24 at the Torrance Marriot. In addition to lunch, guests will get to meet the team’s mascots, Song Girls and bands. Proceeds from the live auction will benefit athletic programs for the Torrance Unified School District. Terranea Resort is hosting a Full Moon Yoga Class on Wednesday, November 25. Yogis of all levels are welcome to this popular class and should bring their yoga mat. The City of Torrance presents the annual Torrance Turkey Trot on Thursday, November 26. A time-honored tradition here in the South Bay, the annual Harry Sutter Memorial Thanksgiving Day 3 Mile Fun Run – aka Turkey Trot – gets under way at 8 a.m. at Sam’s Club in Torrance. All registered participants will receive a commemorative Turkey Trot shirt. The Village Runner and other sponsors will be providing great prizes – including mountain bikes! – for the after-race raffle. The City of Torrance invites runners and spectators to bring a can of food for a special Thanksgiving Food Drive. While you run or watch, the canned foods will be distributed to people in need throughout the South Bay.
