Believe it or not, the holiday season is about to begin. Halloween is just around the corner (be sure to check out the links below for all the big Halloween events) with Thanksgiving on the horizon and before you know it, Christmas and Hanukah will be here. I was in Costco this week and all the holiday decorations are center stage. Ready, set, go……….
I don’t have any of the details yet, but Strand Brewing Company is celebrating the move to their huge, new facility this weekend! It will take place all weekend long with all sorts of fun stuff including gourmet food trucks. The new Tap Room, located at 2201 Dominguez Street in Torrance, will be open Friday 4-9 Saturday 12-9 and Sunday 12-8. Co-Founder Rich Marcello is our guest on The South Bay Show this morning and he’ll tell us everything we need to know so be sure to tune in!
The Redondo Beach Art Group (RBAG) is proud to present the tenth annual Power of Art event beginning Friday, October 16 and running through Sunday, October 18. The exhibit will be held at the Redondo Beach Main Library and admission is free. The event kicks off with an Artists’ Reception on Friday, October 16 from 6 to 10 p.m. Guests will enjoy live music, gift gallery, silent auction, guest artists and food for purchase. Throughout the weekend, attendees will enjoy curator talks, live music and gift gallery. Hours are as follows:

The Western Museum of Flight will host a Lecture by Astronaut Dr. Andrew Feustel & Make N’ Take Model Building Session on Saturday, October 17. Dr. Feustel, who served on the final Endeavour Mission, will share some of the mysteries and adventures of the Space Shuttle Program. The lecture begins at 11 a.m. The lecture will be followed a Make N’ Take Model Building Session of space shuttles from noon to 2:30 p.m. Once your model is complete, you can have it autographed by Astronaut Feustel! Build it and take it home, while at the same time learning a little about flight and the triumph of space pioneering. These sessions are exciting, engaging, educational, and something the whole family will enjoy together! Guests are invited to build as many models as they like. Kits are $12 to $16. The staff of Pacific Coast Hobbies will be on hand to assist with building and answer technical questions. The Point hosts On Point: A Fall Fashion Show on Saturday, October 17 from 3 to 5 p.m. in The Point Plaza. The Point’s biggest style event of the year will feature a celebrity guest, an exciting runway show, exclusive after‐parties and special shopping events showcasing the must‐haves of the season for both men and women. Tickets were originally $50 per person BUT NOW THE EVENT IS FREE! Donations will be accepted to benefit Sandpipers, and with every donation, guests will receive a custom tote bag. Established in 1931, Sandpipers is a 100% volunteer organization dedicated to serving the needs of the South Bay community through charitable and philanthropic programs. Bonnie Barchichat’s Senior Comedy Afternoons is proud to present the Howl-O-Ween Comedy Show & Luncheon on Sunday, October 18 in the Penthouse Ballroom at the Torrance Doubletree. These luncheons and shows are very popular events on the Senior and Boomer circuit. Doors open at noon, lunch is at 12:30 and the show begins at 1:30 p.m. The theme is Halloween and attendees will howl with laughter! There’s nothing frightening about this show, just good old-fashioned fun…..and of course, a costume contest. Tickets are all inclusive with a three course lunch, show, tips and tax. Tickets are $60 if purchased by October 14 and $70 afterward. This unique show of clean comedy has been featured in the Los Angeles Times, The OC Register, The Daily Breeze, Channel 7 News and Life After 50. Senior Comedy Afternoons is a great opportunity for Seniors, Boomers and their families to socialize and have more than a few laughs. The Day at the Beach Triathlon takes place on Sunday, October 18 in Hermosa Beach and features a fun, safe, beginner-oriented course. If you’ve ever imagined competing in a triathlon but were intimidated by an imposing course, here’s a great opportunity to get your feet wet….literally. The race starts with a refreshing ¼ mile ocean swim, followed by a 10 mile bike ride and finishes with a 3 mile run. The course is well marked and lined with volunteers. The pre-race packet pick up starts at 12 p.m. on Saturday, October 17 at Triathlon LAB, located at 600 North Catalina Avenue in Redondo Beach. Call 310-374-9100 for information. Race day gets under way at 5:15 am (for late packet pickup) followed by a mandatory race meeting at the stage on the south side of the Hermosa Pier at 6:50 a.m. The race starts promptly at 7 a.m. with the awards ceremony following at 9:45 am. The Palos Verdes Peninsula Land Conservancy in partnership with Terranea Resorts presents the annual Palos Verdes Pastoral: A Garden-to-Table Dining Experience on Sunday, October 18. Only 200 lucky guests will experience California’s best in organic, handcrafted food and wine prepared by Executive Chef Bernard Ibarra. The event is served under a harvest moon with breathtaking ocean views. The evening will not only raise critical funds, but increase awareness of the important work of the Conservancy. All ticket proceeds will go to support the Land Conservancy and its restoration of open space. The reception begins at 5 p.m. with dinner at 6 p.m. Tickets are $250 per person and space is limited. Dominique’s Kitchen will host a Third Anniversary Celebration on Wednesday, October 21. Chef Dominique has created a special event menu featuring hand-picked Madagascar green peppercorns, the same ones that he used when he first worked at Hotel Maurice in Paris in 1979. These green peppercorns, in his opinion, are the softest and most flavorful. The special menu will feature these green peppercorns from appetizers to dessert. The event also features free wine pours, free gifts and no corkage fee. The five-course, prix fixe menu is priced at $69.99 per person.
