Suspected Redondo Beach Burglar Shot by Homeowner Arraigned
Laurencio Gamboa Jr. is accused of trying to steal a motorcycle from a detached garage.
A man who allegedly tried to steal a motorcycle from a Redondo Beach home but was shot in a leg by the resident is due back in court next month on an attempted theft charge.
Laurencio Gamboa Jr., 33, pleaded not guilty Thursday to a single count of attempted grand theft of personal property, according to the District Attorney’s Office.
He is due back in court Feb. 4, when a date will be set for a hearing to determine if there is enough evidence for him to stand trial.

According to Redondo Beach police, the owner of the home in the 2000 block of Nelson Avenue realized around 3 a.m. that somebody was inside his garage. The homeowner grabbed a handgun and confronted Gamboa as he was taking a motorcycle, police said.
The homeowner shot Gamboa, who tried to flee but was detained by the resident until police arrived.

Gamboa faces 30 months in prison if convicted, prosecutors said. He is being held in lieu of $30,000 bail.
