36 Citations Issued In San Bruno Pedestrian Safety Operation

The operation used a decoy dressed in a full-sized dinosaur costume, intending to make the presence of a pedestrian impossible to miss.

SAN BRUNO, CA — The San Bruno Police Department conducted a four-hour pedestrian crosswalk safety operation on Monday, resulting in 36 citations.

From 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., officers targeted two key intersections: San Bruno Avenue and Masson Avenue; and El Camino Real & Jenevein Avenue.

The operation used a decoy dressed in a full-sized dinosaur costume, intended to make the presence of a pedestrian impossible to miss. Despite the highly visible effort, officers stopped over 40 cars and issued 36 citations for various violations, including failing to yield to a pedestrian in the crosswalk, illegal cell phone use while driving, and driving at an unsafe speed.

“No one forced anyone to speed, use their phone, or drive past a full-sized T-Rex standing in a crosswalk,” police said. "If you see someone in a crosswalk — even if they look like they escaped from Jurassic Park — you must stop."
