State agrees to work with San Mateo County to return millions in vehicle license fees (mercurynews.com) — Redwood City could avoid cuts to emergency response and recreation programs after state officials agreed to renegotiate how vehicle license fees are reimbursed to San Mateo County and its cities. The county says it's still short millions, but is revising its 2026-27 budget assuming full funding, with supervisors set to review the plan on September 29.
   

2. New rent control measure in Redwood City sparks debate (nbcbayarea.com) — Redwood City voters are being asked to decide Measure E, a new rent control proposal that would roll some rents back to 2025 levels, cap future increases, and expand tenant protections. Supporters say it's vital for keeping local workers and families housed, while opponents warn added regulation could push landlords out of the rental market and worsen the housing shortage.
   

3. Weekend Express: Fall Arts Preview: A week-by-week guide to the season (mv-voice.com) — Peninsula arts lovers can look forward to a lively fall, including a family-friendly concert right here in Redwood City plus an author talk at Kepler's and a skateboard art show.
