4 Cannabis Stores Receive Approval From Redwood City

REDWOOD CITY, CA — Four cannabis stores are coming to Redwood City after the city issued permits for the businesses this week.

The permits come after a multi-year process developing regulations for such businesses. The city reviewed 28 applications for retail cannabis storefronts after the city council authorized up to six businesses to operate in Nov. 2020.

“After meticulous review of all 28 applications received, these top candidates satisfy the established criteria to operate storefront retail cannabis businesses in Redwood City,” City Manager Melissa Stevenson Diaz said. “The City carefully designed the cannabis program to incorporate best practices and community feedback. We have seen strong community support through the voter approval of cannabis-related tax measures, a citywide survey, and public input as we developed the program. I believe these businesses will be assets to the Redwood City business community.”

The stores are:

• Juva Retail RWC Inc., at 2301 Broadway
• Responsible and Compliant Retail Redwood City LLC., at 1870 Broadway
• Runway Services Inc., at 928 Whipple Ave.
• MMD Redwood City Inc., at 1764 Broadway

The stores, which are expected to generate between $500,000 and $750,000 in revenue for city services, will join three cannabis delivery businesses that operate out of Redwood City.

They will be required to pay a 4 percent general tax in addition to state and sales tax, as well as contribute a “Community Benefits” package worth around $600,000 to Redwood City groups and organizations and more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service.
