75-Year-Old Cyclist Dies Days After Collision In SMC, Police Investigate
The Major Accident Investigation Team is continuing its probe into the collision, officials said.
WOODSIDE, CA — A 75-year-old bicyclist succumbed to injuries Monday sustained in a collision with a car earlier this month, the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office confirmed Monday.
Responding deputies and emergency personnel discovered the victim unconscious with serious injuries at around 12:15 p.m. on May 1, near the 1400 block of Portola Road. He was rushed to a local hospital, where he remained until he was pronounced dead Monday.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Accident Investigation Team is investigating the cause of the crash, officials said.

Authorities noted that the driver of the car involved stayed at the scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation.
Initial findings suggest that drugs or alcohol were not factors in the accident, police said.

“The Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends, and loved ones of the cyclist,” officials said in a statement.
