4 Firefighters Expected To Recover After 6-Alarm SMC Fire

FOSTER CITY, CA — A six-alarm fire that heavily damaged a Foster City condominium building has been contained, but crews will remain at the scene for the next couple of days extinguishing hot spots, fire officials said Monday.

The fire broke out Sunday at 815 Sea Spray Ln. in Foster City, prompting a massive emergency response. Four firefighters were injured while battling the blaze, but fire officials said Monday they are all expected to make a full recovery.

Several residents were evaluated at the scene, but no resident injuries were reported.

The fire escalated to six alarms as crews battled flames that tore through the multi-unit residential building. Residents were evacuated as firefighters worked for hours to bring the blaze under control.

Fire officials said the blaze no longer poses a threat to the surrounding community, but firefighters will remain at the property for the next day or two to extinguish lingering hot spots.

The building and the surrounding area remain unsafe as city building officials continue assessing the damage, authorities said.

The structure will remain off-limits for the foreseeable future, and access to roads immediately surrounding the building will remain limited until further notice.

Officials urged residents to avoid the area and follow directions from emergency personnel.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
