• Woman Spots Elaborate Scam Before Handing Over Cash In SMC, Suspect Arrested: Police (patch.com) — A quick-thinking Redwood City woman spotted an AppleCare-style phone scam before handing over cash, allowing local police to stage a sting at her home. After the suspect's car fled Redwood City, officers coordinated with San Francisco police, who disabled the vehicle and arrested a Fresno man on suspicion of financial elder abuse and related fraud charges.
   

• California Jury Awards Twins $33 Million in Wrongful Death Case, Holds Teen Street Racer's Parents Liable (lawcommentary.com) — A San Mateo County jury has awarded $33 million to twin girls orphaned in a 2022 street-racing crash in Redwood City, holding the teen driver, another racer, and the teen's parents responsible. The verdict underscores how extreme speeding on El Camino Real and parental oversight of teen drivers can carry serious legal and financial consequences.
   

• Redwood City woman identified in US 101 motorcycle crash (rwcpulse.com) — A 38-year-old Redwood City woman, Irma Elizabeth Oxlaj, was killed in a hit-and-run motorcycle crash on southbound Highway 101 in East Palo Alto early Aug. 20. CHP investigators say a motorist fled but was later identified and arrested on suspicion of felony hit-and-run and vehicular manslaughter, with the investigation still ongoing.
