Baby Brought To Stanford Hospital With Fractured Skull, Cocaine In System

An East Palo Alto woman faces child abuse charges after she brought her 11-month-old daughter to the hospital last weekend with a fractured skull and cocaine in her system, prosecutors said today.

Jimita Crayton, 30, brought her child to the emergency room at Stanford Hospital on Sunday, reporting that the girl was not eating and had been vomiting, according to the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office.

Police were called to the hospital, however, after doctors determined the girl had a fractured skull and tested positive for cocaine in her urine. Crayton, who lives with a friend in East Palo Alto with her twin daughters, told police she was the sole caretaker of the girls and denied using cocaine or abusing the girl.

She also said she was not breastfeeding the girl, according to prosecutors.

She appeared in San Mateo County Superior Court in Redwood City on Tuesday and pleaded not guilty to charges of corporal injury to a child and child endangerment, with enhancements for inflicting great bodily injury on a child under the age of 5, prosecutors said.

Bail was set at $125,000 for Crayton, who remains in custody, prosecutors said.
