Bay Area's GoFundMe Under Fire Over Fundraiser For ICE Agent Who Killed Renee Good
A page was created for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who killed a 37-year-old woman, despite terms forbidding it.

REDWOOD CITY, CA — GoFundMe representatives said the company is reviewing its policies amid controversy over a fundraiser for the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agent who killed a 37-year-old woman last week in Minnesota.
ICE agent Jonathan Ross shot and killed Renee Nicole Good on Jan. 7 in Minneapolis, sparking protests all over the U.S.
A GoFundMe page established for Ross by a person called Clyde Emmons had raised over $672,000 as of Tuesday evening.

"After seeing all the media bs about a domestic terrorist getting go fund me. I feel that the officer that was 1000 percent justified in the shooting deserves to have a go fund me. Funds will go to help him," Emmons wrote on the GoFundMe.
Emmons also claimed he was in contact with Ross after connecting with the creator of a separate fundraiser for the ICE agent.

Headquartered in Redwood City, the online fundraising platform's terms forbid campaigns that raise money for the legal defense of anyone formally charged with a violent crime, and any fundraiser violating this policy will be removed.
As of Wednesday morning, Ross has not been charged with any crimes.
"Our Trust & Safety team is currently reviewing all fundraisers related to the shooting in Minneapolis to ensure they are compliant with our Terms of Service. We are also working to gather additional information from the organizer of this fundraiser. During the review process, all funds remain safely held by our payment processors. GoFundMe’s Terms of Service prohibit fundraisers that raise money for the legal defense of anyone formally charged with a violent crime. Any campaigns that violate this policy will be removed," a GoFundMe representative told Patch in an email.
Billionaire hedge fund manager Bill Ackman said on X he donated to the fundraiser for Ross.
"I have been widely reviled (and worse) by many on social and mainstream media for giving $10,000 to a @gofundme for Jonathan Ross, the officer who tragically killed Renee Good. [I had also attempted to support the gofundme for Renee Good’s family, but it was already closed as it had achieved its $1.5 million fundraising objective.]"
Following the killing of Good, local leaders such as Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey have called for ICE to leave both their cities and states.
"The presence of federal immigration enforcement agents is causing chaos in our city and making our community less safe. We are demanding that ICE leave the city and state immediately," Frey said in a statement the day of the shooting, according to MPRNews.
GoFundMe said the only page they have verified related to this incident is Support for Renee Good’s widow and family.
