Beloved Peninsula Eatery To Close Doors Due To High Rent
After more than 60 years, the restaurant on El Camino Real will close on March 7, the owners say.

MENLO PARK, CA — After more than six decades of operating on the Peninsula, The Oasis Beer Garden of Menlo Park will no longer be "serving pizza with a slice of history." The beloved eatery is scheduled to close on March 7.
According to a post on Facebook from the Tougas Family, The Oasis is closing due to high costs.
"After several months of effort, we were unable to negotiate a reasonable lease for our business, nor meet the requested terms of the building’s owner," the message states. "Therefore, we have made the very difficult decision to close our doors, and bid farewell to the endearing community of Menlo Park and Stanford University."

The Menlo Park family-run business — lovingly refereed to as "The O" — has been open since 1958.
Locals expressed their sadness at the news of the closure following the announcement. One person even started a Care2 petition asking the landlords to "reconsider." So far, more than 12,500 people have signed that petition.

On Monday, the petition organizer Alison Perris shared the following update:
"Thank you to everyone for signing and sharing your memories and support. I have been in contact with the Mayor's office who met with the landlords of The Oasis and they are interested in speaking with anyone who would want to take over operation of the restaurant. If there is anyone out there who would be interested, please send me an email by clicking on my name at the top of the petition and I will connect you with the City representative. Now is our chance - let's SAVE THE O!"
Time will tell if this will have any impact on the upcoming scheduled closure.
