Bicyclist Struck by Vehicle in Belmont After Cutting Across Traffic, Police Say
The man was hospitalized with injuries described as "non life-threatening."

Belmont police are investigating a Wednesday morning crash that left a bicyclist hospitalized after being struck by a vehicle.
The collision happened around 7:35 a.m., on the Ralston Ave overpass at Highway 101, according to Belmont Police Captain Patrick Halleran.
According to Halleran, police believe the cyclist had cut across “several” lanes of traffic, right into the path of an approaching vehicle. He’s expected to survive.

...At approximately 7:35AM, Belmont Police and Fire units responded to the report of a traffic collision involving a bicyclist on Ralston Ave at Hwy 101. Upon arrival, first responders found that a 30 year old Belmont man who had been riding eastbound on the overpass, was struck by a 1997 Geo Prism sedan. The bicyclist, who was wearing a helmet, was treated at the scene by Belmont Fire Department paramedics and was transported to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries. The driver of the sedan was not injured.
The cause of the collision is under investigation, but according to witnesses, the bicyclist had been riding in the far left-hand eastbound lane and cut across two lanes into the path of the sedan that was also eastbound.

The Belmont Police would like to remind both motorists and bicyclists that that share the road and to be alert for each other. Bicyclists are also reminded that like motorists, they have to follow the rules of the road and drive defensively.
