AOTS NEWS
Julie - The really big news is that my partner in crime, Julie Goodenough, has moved to Pittsburgh, PA (yes, Pittsburgh. PA). We created and produced AOTS together for the past 6 years, and have been friends longer than that. She is following her dream, and for that my heart sings for her…and I am also very sad to see her leave. She will be missed more than words can say. Do stay in touch w/Julie thru Facebook.
And, yes, the show WILL go on. I am glad to announce that a good friend to both Julie and me, Chris Oliver, will be stepping in to lend a hand this year. Chris has done AOTS shows in the past, and is a fabulous painter. I know we will be a great team.
JOTS – As you may have noticed, JOTS is back! JEWELRY on the Square, which we had done for two years, features the best and brightest in an all jewelry show. Due to the uncertainty last year with Redevelopment Agency funding, it was just too late to schedule so we decided to take a break. And now, it is making a comeback…. Calling all Jewelers!! Join us for JOTS!!
PAL Blues Festival/3 days- Another big change is that the PAL Blues, Art and BBQ Festival will be held on both Saturday and Sunday. We will do our regular AOTS that Friday night making it a 3-day show, our first. The Blues Festival continues to grow and get better every year and we are excited to do this expansion. Plus, a portion of the booth fees continues to go to the Police Athletic League (PAL) to support a great cause. The Blues, Art & BBQ Festival is a fund-raiser for PAL, and they do amazing work in the community.
NEW FOR 2013!!
Rental Canopies – Since several artists have asked, I talked with the City about the possibility of artists renting a canopy for a show. They have agreed to renting a limited number of canopies to individual artists who request one, including set-up and taking down the canopy. Details are included in the application. This is a great opportunity, making it easier to participate in the shows.
DIDJA KNOW?
Last year, some crowds were close to 5000 per Friday night, drawing people from all over the Bay Area to our fabulous downtown! The musical line-up was amazing and fun for 18 weeks. We eagerly await the new lineup for 2013.
And, as always, we will continue to give out $100 in Gift Certificates for each ART on the Square show to bring everyone to see the fabulous artists and art work on Hamilton, and to promote shopping. Buy local art, y'all!
STAY TUNED!!
We will have a contest to design a t-shirt for the downtown events. We are working out the details, but do think about what that would look like…and we will let y’all know. Fame and fortune awaits the lucky RWC artist who designs the special chosen design for 2013. And you heard it here first! Details to follow…
