Canoe Adventure on Redwood City Bayfront
Did you know you can canoe in the bay around Redwood City? The Marine Science Institute offers a monthly Canoe Adventure starting at their beach on Redwood Creek!

We signed up for a CANOE ADVENTURE and explored the sloughs of Bair Island, enjoyed a picnic lunch out in the absolute peace of the Bay with water birds for company and pickleweed for salt.
What a wonderful day! We canoed two to a canoe, or four when it was a family. One intrepid lady brought all three grandkids and they had a great time paddling while she steered.

We learned that Bair Island was originally saltponds and agricultural land that was going to be developed into a housing tract. However, POST (Peninsula Open Space Trust) bought the land from the developer and it is now a part of the Don Edwards Wildlife Refuge on SF Bay. Shades of Cargill!
We went on a Sierra Club Outing, which joined with the which has a monthly Canoe Adventure from the beach at their fascinating science center. It is IDEAL for any age but especially for families as they specialize in making science education fun for kids.
