Woodside Fashion Show Chair
A LITTLE HISTORY OF WOODSIDE FASHION SHOW:
Underwriters needed
Every year for the past 22 years Woodside has put on the annual fashion show. The production is an above-par performance with clothing stores from Banana Republic and Nike, to downtown boutiques like Pickled, Active Aggie, Swayed and Geotz Brothers.
All of the money raised comes from ticket sales, underwriters or advertisements. Of the proceeds, 100% goes straight to the Woodside Athletic Boosters, who then purchase equipment for the teams, covers team travel costs and whatever else is needed to cloth, coach and move the athletes about.
So what does it take to pull off such a production? First, it takes a core group of volunteers who do not consider their job done the day after their last child graduates. Without the constant support of the Patrick and Peterson families, and the consistent formula handed to the new chairperson every year, the show could not be the success that it is.
Tina Patrick, a graduates’ mom, and Karen “Seiko” Peterson, known as Woodside’s fairy godmother, are there every step of the way to support and advise the new chairperson. This year I took on the role of chair, and I can’t imagine having taken this on without them. Meetings started in September when our booster club president Gary Wang found that I was his “yes” person.
In addition to having a top-notch line-up of clothing stores we are home to the famous Woodside Dance Team. The show is completely choreographed by Kim Harvath, our dance team coach. Each store has anywhere from 7-20 seniors who perform a skit to music. There are about 30 numbers in total and without the expertise of Kim whose dance team tryouts look like the opening night of a Justin Beiber concert, this incredible performance could not be pulled off.
As downtown continues to grow with the help of the community it is our hope that the businesses will see our show as a great way to support our athletic program. This organization that allows all students to participate in sports without any out of pocket costs that may exclude certain students from joining the teams.
Please consider joining our efforts by advertising or underwriting our production. Costs range from $50.00 to $1,200.00. Any amount is appreciated. Please email v_costantini@msn.com for our ad/underwriter form.
