Redwood City's Secret Bookstore

This a wonderful place to find used books, that you may not know about.

My favorite used bookstore in town is Funder's Bookstore in the basement of the Historical Museum in the domed Old Courthouse building. Its run by and and supports the San Mateo County Historical Association.

Given the store's location and affiliation, it's not surprising that is has a nice selection of books on local history, and an interesting antiquarian section.  But you might be surprised at the selection of books in normal generes of fiction and non-, their friendly children's section, and a room full of paperbacks in all the usual genres, even a few by my favorite author. And, other than obviously rare and collectable items, everything is remarkably cheap.

The only downside is the hours--11:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Tuesday to Saturday.  If, like me, you live in Redwood City but the workweek takes you elsewhere, you may find that a good way to visit is to make a side-trip from the Farmer's Market.
