This week in my political life

A week in San Mateo County politics

With just 7 weeks to go before the election, things are getting busy!

On Wednesday night I attended the LGBT for Obama event in San Francisco. I met Governor Christine Gregoire from Washington State. She is an inspiration! Her ground breaking legislation in the state of Washington for Marriage Equality will forever be her legacy. Chris spoke about her journey as a woman of faith in the Catholic Church to the realization that "it was the right thing to do", and that the church(s) have no business dictating goverment policy. Her honesty tells volumes of the type of leader she is.

Washington is going to be voting at the ballot box on this issue on Nov. 6th after a petition gained enough signatures to challenge the law. Just like in 2008, here in California with Prop 8, the voters of Washington will decide on Referendum 74.

THIS time, it looks like it will be the first time at the ballot box, Marriage Equality will become law....as I write this the polls there say 56% in favor of keeping marriage equality. Chris DID warn of of us "to not take anything for granted" in any race on any level.

In her first race for Governor, she went through 3 recounts and a 6 month lawsuit before she won the election by 133 votes. THAT was one of the things on my mind last night at our monthly San Mateo County Democratic Central Comittee meeting at our DEM Headquaters at 650 El Camino Real in Belmont.
