UPDATED: Man Chases Ex-Wife Through Redwood City Parking Lot Before Shooting, Killing Self: Police
BREAKING: Police say the woman frantically called 911 to report that her ex-husband was chasing her.

REDWOOD CITY, CA – A man died after apparently shooting himself following a domestic dispute in Redwood City -- after he first was seen chasing his ex-wife through a parking lot with the same gun he allegedly used to take his own life, police report.
Redwood City police say it all started around 2:20 p.m. when they got a call from a woman who said her ex was after her.
"The Redwood City Police Department received a frantic 911 call from a female who indicated that her ex-husband was chasing her in a parking lot of her employment," Redwood City Police Deputy Chief Gary Kirby said at a press conference.

The unidentified woman told authorities that she had arrived at work and was met by her husband who wanted to talk to her.
"He abruptly stopped in the middle of the parking lot with his pickup truck, made contact with her, [but] she didn't want to have any discussion with her," Kirby said. "He went back to his vehicle, obtained a firearm which we believe to be a handgun, and approached her with the handgun and started chasing her through the parking lot."

Meanwhile, police say they were on the phone with the woman and received several other calls from witnesses who saw what was going on. Police got to the scene within a few minutes and "secured" the woman, Kirby said, but the man took off running.
The man fled on foot and officers chased him. At one point, the man brandished the gun at officers, prompting an officer to fire a single shot. It was not immediately clear if the man was struck by the gunfire.
When officers tried to get the man to put down the gun, he did not comply and shot himself in the head, according to police.
Redwood City police have apparently had multiple encounters with the same man within the last month, mostly involving domestic violence incidents with his ex-wife.
On March 10, the man allegedly broke into a house he and the woman had shared at one point, prompting her to call police. Police provided an emergency restraining order for the woman, Kirby said.
Officers also took away weapons that belonged to the man. The man then violated the restraining order days later.
Kirby described the man as an "individual who was not in the right mindset."
The man's identity has not been released.
The officer who fired the single shot had been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the preliminary outcome of an investigation, which will be conducted by the San Mateo County District Attorney's Office, according to police.
