Devil's Slide: A Road Shaped by the Land

What stories are written into the cliffs, trails and coastline of Devil's Slide? Join local naturalist and historian Keith Mangold for a fascinating look at this remarkable stretch of the San Mateo County coast.

Mangold's presentation takes a holistic approach, exploring both the natural world and the human history of Devil's Slide, from the plants and animals that thrive along the coast to the generations of people who have wrestled with the challenges of getting safely along this dramatic and sometimes treacherous landscape.

A longtime El Granada resident, Mangold has volunteered with San Mateo County Parks at Devil's Slide and Fitzgerald Marine Reserve, as well as with Half Moon Bay State Parks and the San Mateo County Resource Conservation District. His deep involvement in the Coastside has given him a unique perspective on the area's history, geology, wildlife and environmental challenges.
