Car Thieves Remain At-Large In SMC After Fleeing From Officers: Police
Two suspects fled the scene in a stolen car after an officer interrupted an attempted vehicle break-in, police said.
HILLSBOROUGH, CA — An early morning patrol Monday in Hillsborough turned into a chase after an officer spotted two men apparently trying to break into a car, police said.
The incident, which took place around 3:37 a.m. on Monday on the 700 block of Chateau Drive, involved a black Nissan 370Z and a red Toyota Prius, according to the Hillsborough Police Department. .
Police said an officer saw a man tampering with the Nissan 370Z. When the officer got out of the patrol car to talk to the man, the suspect ran away, and the officer began a foot pursuit, police said.

Things took another turn when a second man, whom the officer hadn't initially noticed, jumped into the Toyota Prius, police said. This driver then sped off eastbound on Chateau Drive, ignoring the officer's commands to stop, according to police.
A search involving several nearby law enforcement agencies followed, as officers tried to locate both suspects and the red Toyota Prius. However, the search ended without finding either person or the car.

Investigators later confirmed that the black Nissan 370Z had been reported stolen from South San Francisco about 30 minutes before it was found in Hillsborough.
Police are currently reviewing security footage and analyzing evidence collected from the scene and the stolen vehicle as they work to identify the people involved.
Both suspects are described by police as men, standing approximately 5 feet 7 inches to 5 feet 9 inches tall.
One person was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants, and black shoes, police said. Police described the second person as wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, gray sweatpants and black shoes.
