Communications Restored Following Cyber Attack In SMC
City officials confirmed the recovery process continues to restore virtual public services.
FOSTER CITY, CA — Foster City has announced a significant step toward full recovery following a suspected ransomware attack, with city officials confirming the restoration of phone and email connectivity.
The City is now actively working to reinstate access to its virtual public services. Throughout the incident, emergency services, including 911 operations, have remained fully functional, providing essential public safety coverage.
City Hall remains open to the public during normal business hours, though officials noted that limited services are still available as the recovery process continues.

The announcement comes after the City Council in Foster City unanimously adopted a resolution Monday night, declaring that the town was in the midst of an emergency following a ransomware attack last week.
Officials had previously taken most of their computer systems offline after detecting suspicious network activity.

“We are engaging with independent cybersecurity specialists to assist with the investigation and remediation,” Austin Walsh, Foster City communications manager wrote in a statement March 20.
The City has expressed gratitude for the community's patience and cooperation and apologized for any inconvenience the disruption has caused. Officials said the city would release a statement once the incident is fully resolved.
