Controlled Burns To Send Up Smoke In San Mateo County

A vegetation burn to prevent wildfires will send up smoke this week that may be visible around San Mateo County, officials said.

SAN MATEO COUNTY, CA — Smoke will be visible across much of San Mateo County for several days this week as fire crews burn vegetation as part of a wildfire prevention effort, the San Mateo County Fire Department said.

The burns, near the entrance to Huddart Park, will start Tuesday, with smoke likely to be visible above Kings Mountain Road during daylight hours through Friday. Authorities asked the public not to report smoke if they see it in that area.

Crews will be burning trees that died from Sudden Oak Death, as well as mastication debris from recent work in the area.
