Driver Killed in Wrong Way Crash Identified
Woodside firefighters helped extract the trapped drivers

A man killed in a two-vehicle collision on Interstate Highway 280 in Los Altos Hills early Thursday morning was 23-year-old Brian Devoto, according to the Santa Clara County medical examiner’s office.
Devoto was a resident of Santa Clara, an employee of the medical examiner’s office said.
At about 1 a.m. Thursday, the Palo Alto and Woodside fire departments responded to the two-vehicle crash on southbound Interstate Highway 280 at Page Mill Road and found both drivers trapped inside their vehicles, emergency responders said.

One of the vehicles had traveled the wrong way on the highway and crashed into another vehicle, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Palo Alto and Woodside firefighters used extraction equipment to free the two drivers, fire officials said. Both patients were transported to the hospital, where the driver later identified as Devoto died and the other driver, who is not being unidentified, was admitted with life-threatening injuries, according to the CHP.

The CHP is investigating the collision to determine which driver was headed the wrong way and whether alcohol or drugs played a factor.
