Elks Club Golf Course Is Emerald Hills’ Hidden Gem
The Elks Club 30-acre facility boasts Redwood City's scenic, but surprisingly difficult, 9-hole course.
Nestled between the lush, green, and winding streets of Redwood City’s Emerald Hills district lies the quiet beauty: , home to a
swimming pool, tennis courts, golf course, and banquet hall. This hidden treasure remains secluded from neighboring facilities, as it is placed intrinsically within the complex framework of the narrow, twisting, and seemingly endless lanes that dominate the hills and valleys of Emerald Hills.
Set atop several hills and with a sweeping view of the entire Bay Area, the Emerald
Hills golf course is a brutal and technically challenging 9-hole course, and
although each of the holes is only a Par 3 (which may seem relatively simple to
more experienced golfers), players encounter difficulty before every green.
This course is laden with unexpected beaches, hidden ponds, and awkward angles
to the pin created by the plethora of trees throughout the course. The many
golfers that play this course can find either a challenge or a big frustration
in the dramatic uphill holes, or the steeply downhill greens, as the majority
of play depends on careful placement of the shot around the countless obstacles
blocking your way.
As I have discovered in my years of playing this course, it is not meant for the
faint-hearted or the out-of-practice. Trudging up and down the severely angled
hills is a feat in its own right, not to mention the actual play of the
game. Overall, however, this course challenges the stamina and the short game of any player, whether veteran or novice, and provides trying entertainment throughout the year.
