BONE MARROW DRIVE BENEFITTING PENINSULA TEEN DIAGNOSED WITH RARE APLASTIC ANEMIA

A bone marrow drive benefitting Bryce Vaysberg, a 13-year old San Mateo resident recently diagnosed with Aplastic Anemia (AA), a very rare condition that causes the bone marrow to stop making enough red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets for the body.  Unfortunately, the cause of AA for Bryce is unknown, and despite many tests and other possible treatments, Bryce is facing a bone marrow transplant.

Anyone between the ages of 18 and 60 can stop by and get tested with this simple, non-invasive - but potentially life-saving test. A quick swab of the inside of the cheek gives the necessary tissue typing information needed to determine a match and a National Marrow Donor Program representative will be on hand to assist.

In addition, hopeful donors can visit the National Marrow Donor Program “Be the Match” website (http://join.bethematch.org/4bryce), and request a test kit using the following promo code:  4bryce.  A test kit will be mailed directly to their homes.
