Fires Break Out In Redwood City Home, School: None Injured
Two unrelated fires broke out Monday morning, resulting in damage and a temporary closure of Fair Oaks Elementary School.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — Two unrelated fires broke out Monday morning in Redwood City, the city reports. No one is reported injured from either, but one house fire caused damage to an unoccupied home, while another resulted in a power outage and the temporary closure of Fair Oaks Elementary School and KIPP Excelencia Community Prep.
The school fire began at 10:31 a.m. Monday at 2950 Fair Oaks Avenue, a building which houses Fair Oaks Elementary School and KIPP Excelencia Community Prep charter school. Crews found electrical wires down and a power pole on fire. The school was evacuated for the rest of the day due to smoke and a lack of power, Redwood City reported in a news release. No injuries or damage to the structure were reported.
The outage resulting from the downed wires affected about 191 customers in the surrounding area, according to a PG&E outage map from Monday.

At 8:45 a.m., crews found smoke showing from an unoccupied two-story Victorian home on 1417 Middlefield Road currently undergoing renovation, the city reported. The fire was quickly extinguished, limiting damage to the first floor and basement. Firefighters say the cause was ruled to be improper use of a fireplace. Redwood City Fire Chief Ray Iverson said there was “evidence of homeless activity inside,” according to Bay City News.
Both incidents have been secured, and all impacted streets are reopened to traffic.
