San Mateo County Environmental Health staff will be on hand with information about used motor oil and filter recycling as well as safe disposal of other automotive and household products. Free motor oil recycling kits are available.
Radio KBRG will broadcast live from the event!
Used motor oil filters can and should be recycled, along with used motor oil. Even after it has been drained, a used oil filter contains over half a pint of oil. If the filter is disposed of improperly, this oil can contaminate our neighborhoods, soil and water. Each filter also contains about one pound of steel that can be readily recycled into new products, saving energy and preventing pollution.
While the filter exchange event encourages filter recycling on the spot, used motor oil filters can be recycled free of charge year round at over 65 drop-off locations throughout the county. For a list of locations visit www.smchealth.org/UsedOil.
