Group of Redwood City Youth Accused of Attacking, Pistol-Whipping Local Man

Sheriff's officials say they've arrested four people in connection to the attack.

Two 18-year-olds and two juveniles have been arrested for allegedly pistol-whipping and robbing a man in unincorporated Redwood City, San Mateo County sheriff’s officials said Thursday.

The robbery was reported at 9:48 p.m. Wednesday in the 300 block of Berkshire Avenue, according to the sheriff’s office.

The 31-year-old victim said he was walking down the sidewalk just west of Curtis Avenue when four suspects approached and attacked him, according to the sheriff’s office.

“The group produced a black semi-automatic handgun and members of the group demanded the victim’s property, struck him across the face with the handgun several times, and then punched him in the face, causing him to fall to the ground,” sheriff’s officials said in a news release. “While the victim was on the ground, the suspects punched and kicked him, then removed his personal property, and were last seen running northbound on Curtis Avenue towards Dumbarton Avenue.”

Deputies responding to the report of the robbery located the four suspects in the area and arrested them, according to the sheriff’s office.

The two 18-year-olds, Siliveinusi Hendon and Tangata Laulea, all of Redwood City, were arrested on suspicion of robbery, while the two juveniles, ages 14 and 16, were released to their parents, sheriff’s officials said.
