Health Workers Strike In NorCal: Report
Some 750 Kaiser Permanente workers walked off the job this weekend, demanding higher pay and improved working conditions.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — About 750 Kaiser Permanente employees in Redwood City and in Northern California went on strike this weekend, demanding better working conditions and higher wages, the San Mateo Daily Journal reported.
The workers, who maintain medical equipment, claimed they were being underpaid compared to what others are paid in the industry. They are represented by the International Union of Operating Engineers, Local 39, the newspaper reported.
“We don’t want to be out here any more than Kaiser wants us out here,” Local 39 Business Manager Bart Florence told the San Mateo Daily Journal. “But unfortunately, Kaiser has decided they’re not going to pay the prevailing wages.”
