Here's Your Redwood City Storm Guide As 'Wet and Windy' Weather Arrives

Local officials warn San Mateo County residents to be careful in this weather. Plus, find out where you can get sandbags nearby.

As the National Weather Service predicts that a “wet and windy” storm will hit the Bay Area through the weekend, local San Mateo County officials want to make sure you’re prepared.

Office of Emergency Services District Coordinator Nicholas Gottuso released a “San Mateo County Prep Guide” on Friday, listing the essential resources of residents.

Here is the alert:

Heavy Rain, Wind Advisory This Weekend - U.S. National Weather Service San Francisco Bay Area/Monterey California, a weather system tapping into subtropical moisture will bring heavy rainfall and high winds to northern California through the weekend.

The heaviest rainfall is expected Thursday night into Friday. This system will also bring high winds to the region, mostly near the coast and in the hills, with gusts up to 60 mph. A wind advisory is in effect from Feb. 6, 2015, 4 a.m. to Feb. 7, 2015, 4 a.m.

San Mateo County residents should prepare for possible power outages, difficult driving conditions, flood risks, and downed trees. Other precautionary actions include securing trash cans, lawn furniture and any other loose or lightweight outdoor objects that may be easily moved by strong winds as well as checking local storm drains and gutters to make sure they are cleared before the rain starts.

The San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) is on alert to respond to any major storm-related issues. For an emergency, dial 9-1-1.
