Kaiser Permanente Redwood City among US best for quality, safety

14 Kaiser Permanente medical centers of pretigious Joint Commission list of "Top Performers."

Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Medical Center has been named a “Top Performer on Key Quality Measures”, an annual recognition given to hospitals for outstanding quality and safety.
In all, 14 Kaiser Permanente hospitals in California and Hawaii were honored by the Joint Commission, the leading accreditor of health care organizations in the United States.
The “Top Performer” designation recognizes exemplary performance in patient care for conditions like heart attack, surgical care, and inpatient psychiatric services.
“Kaiser Permanente Redwood City has focused on delivering the highest quality heart attack and stroke care for our members,” said Dr. Jim O’Donnell, a pediatrician and the Physician-in-Chief of the medical center. “The ‘Top Performer’ listing is a tribute to the dedicated work of our doctors, nurses, and staff.”
The hospital was also honored for evidence-based clinical processes improving care for surgery, blood clots in deep veins (usually the leg), and perinatal care.
The Kaiser Permanente Redwood City Hospital is also a regional center for high-level neurological surgery and neurosciences. It is a candidate to become a Comprehensive Stroke Center, one of 90 centers in the United States providing the highest level of stroke care.
Kaiser Permanente’s Psychiatric Health Facility in Santa Clara was also recognized as a “Top Performer.\
“This recognition underscores Kaiser Permanente’s continuous efforts to provide the best mental health care possible,” said Dr. Don Mordecai, Director of Mental Health and Chemical Dependency Services. “Ensuring that care is easily available when it’s needed is incredibly important and at Kaiser Permanente, we have taken steps to ensure our members have access to the best mental health care professionals when they need them.”
Other hospitals named “Top Performers” include Kaiser Permanente medical centers in Santa Clara, Roseville, Sacramento, South Sacramento and South San Francisco.
Seven Kaiser Permanente hospitals in Southern California were also honored as “Top Performers” by the Joint Commission.
