OAKLAND, Calif. (January 27, 2016) – Kaiser Permanente, the internationally recognized integrated health care system headquartered in the Bay Area, is proud to be selected as the official Super Bowl 50 Host Committee Medical Team, providing medical care, expertise and health information for up to one million visitors at Super Bowl City and other community events leading up to the game.

“Our role as the official medical team highlights the trust the Super Bowl 50 Host Committee has placed in Kaiser Permanente and in the expertise of our physicians,” said Robert Pearl, MD, executive director and CEO of The Permanente Medical Group. “As a national leader in quality, we are honored to offer our medical expertise and services to the million-plus visitors expected at this major international event. Our motto is to treat every patient as we would want for our families and friends, and we look forward to extending that commitment to all of the guests who will be here for the events.”

As the official Medical Team, Kaiser Permanente physicians will provide medical assistance to the attendees at “Super Bowl City,” a free, nine day event along the San Francisco waterfront. Kaiser Permanente will also be the medical provider at the “Super Community Celebration” event at Santa Clara University and at the NFL Experience at Moscone Center in San Francisco. Nearly three dozen Kaiser Permanente physicians and medical staff will be on-site at the various locations.

Many of the visitors to Super Bowl City and other venues are our members and we want to be there to take care of them, as well as the hundreds of thousands of other people that will be attending.”
The Kaiser Permanente medical team includes 24 emergency and sports medicine physicians and 10 licensed vocational nurses, all under the direction of Hernando Garzon, MD, an emergency medicine physician who is director of emergency management for Kaiser Permanente.

“We have a wealth of experience providing medical care at events like this,” said Garzon. “We’ll draw on all of that background and experience to care for the public during the Super Bowl community events.”
