21 Bay Area Cities To Increase Minimum Wage In 2020

Nearly two dozen cities across Northern California are set to raise their minimum wage in the new year — see if yours is one of them.

NORTHERN CALIFORNIA — Workers across Northern California will be getting a financial boost in the new year. While the state minimum wage is set to hit $12 an hour, many cities — most of which already have higher wages due to local measures — are increasing their minimum wages on top of that figure.

Statewide, California's minimum wage has been increasing $1 each year since 2017. It will reach $12 an hour starting in 2020, and $15 an hour in 2023. The federal minimum wage has remained at $7.25 an hour since 2009.

In the meantime, many municipalities have chosen to raise their wages higher than the statewide minimum — part of an effort to ease California's cost of living, one of the highest in the country.
