Police said they found drugs nearby.

Belmont police were investigating Friday night the death of a 17-year-old boy who was found unconscious inside a local apartment unit

According to Belmont Police Captain Patrick Halleran, Belmont police and fire crews responded to a report of a “medical emergency” around 8:20 a.m. at an apartment in the 2200 block of Lake Rd.

“Upon arrival, responders found an unresponsive 17-year-old male, who had been visiting from Los Altos,” he said in a police statement issued Friday evening. “Belmont Fire Department paramedics administered life-saving measures, but were unable to save the subject, who was pronounced at the scene.”

The captain said that investigators found “evidence of drug use” at the residence and are trying to piece together everything that happened.

“Other than the apparent drug use, there are no indications of foul play,” he said. “The cause of death will be determined by the Coroner.”
