Man Arrested for Waving Fake Gun at Motorists in Belmont

A man who allegedly threatened several passing motorists with a “gun” in Belmont was arrested after police caught up with him Friday night, it was announced Monday.

According to Belmont Police Capt. Patrick Halleran, the agency began getting calls about a man with a gun on El Camino at Harbor Boulevard around 6:45 p.m.

“When officers arrived, witnesses told them that the man had fled east on Harbor Boulevard toward Old County Road,” Halleran said.

Within just a few minutes, though, police officers caught up with the suspect in the 1300 block of Old County Road.

Witnesses helped them identify 21-year-old Richard Ines of Richmond, and he was arrested, according to Halleran. However, he didn’t go in without a fight.

“During his arrest, Ines assaulted one of the officers who was taken to an area hospital with non life-threatening injuries,” Halleran said. “Ines was not injured and was booked for brandishing a replica handgun, criminal threats, possession of a switch blade, battery on a peace officer, resisting arrest and providing false information to police.”
