A 65-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to shooting and injuring his son during an argument at their San Mateo County home last month, prosecutors said Monday.
Alan Fisher entered his plea Friday to attempted murder charges following the April 22 shooting that injured his 33-year-old son at the home in the 800 block of Crestview Drive in San Carlos, according to the district attorney’s office.

Prosecutors said Fisher, a retired physician, got into an argument with his son that escalated into a fight. Prosecutors said Fisher had been drinking and that his son has alcohol and anger management problems.
The victim allegedly had a pocketknife and Fisher armed himself with a .380-caliber semiautomatic handgun, then shot his son in the neck and abdomen, prosecutors said.

The son was taken to Stanford Hospital and is expected to survive, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office.
Fisher, who was uninjured, told deputies investigating the case that he had to defend himself from his son. He was arrested and booked into county jail under $1 million bail.
He is scheduled to return to court on Tuesday for a motion by his defense attorney Richard Weese to reduce his bail, prosecutors said. The preliminary hearing in the case is scheduled for May 13.
Weese was not immediately available Monday to comment on the case.
