Man Who Murdered Pregnant Girlfriend Sentenced In SMC: DA
The man was convicted of second-degree murder for the strangulation death of his girlfriend and their unborn baby, prosecutors said.
REDWOOD CITY, CA — A San Mateo man will spend at least three decades behind bars after being handed a sentence on Friday for the 2024 murder of his pregnant girlfriend, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office announced.
Andrew Ryan Coleman, 34, was sentenced to 30 years to life in state prison following his March 4 conviction on two counts of second-degree murder after a 22-day trial.
Coleman murdered Kirsten Castle, 37, a mother of four who was eight months pregnant with his child, by strangulation at their San Mateo duplex on August 4, 2024, prosecutors said. Following the murder, Coleman fled the scene in Castle's car, driving to Southern California, prosecutors said. He was eventually tracked down and arrested in West Covina, polcie said. Police found a stolen safe containing $37,000 in the trunk of the car upon his arrest, according to prosecutors.
