Man Guilty Of Murdering Pregnant Girlfriend, Unborn Baby In San Mateo: DA

The man faces sentencing for strangling a mother of four and her unborn baby in their duplex, prosecutors said.

SAN MATEO, CA — A San Mateo man was convicted Wednesday for killing his pregnant girlfriend and their unborn baby in the summer of 2024, the San Mateo County District Attorney’s Office announced.

Andrew Coleman, 34, was found guilty of two counts of second-degree murder following a 22-day trial, prosecutors said.

Coleman murdered 37-year-old Kirsten Castle, who was eight months pregnant with his child, by strangulation in their San Mateo duplex on August 4, 2024, prosecutors said. Castle was also a mother of four. Her 10-year-old daughter discovered her body in the living room that afternoon, prosecutors said.

After the murder, Coleman fled to Southern California in Castle's car. He was tracked down and arrested in West Covina. Police found a stolen safe containing $37,000 in the trunk of the car, prosecutors said.

Coleman remains in jail without bail and is scheduled to be sentenced on March 27.
