Masterworks Chorale presents "A Gathering of Light" on March 21st and 22nd, 2015
Celebrate the Spring Equinox with music by Duruflé, Fauré, Ravel, Lauridsen, Moses Hogan and Ola Gjeilo!
Continuing Masterworks Chorale’s 51st season, we are celebrating the return of light with the Spring Equinox on March 21 and 22 with a program focused on the light of the spirit in music. Performances are Saturday at 8pm and Sunday at 4pm at the Congregational Church of San Mateo, 225 Tilton Avenue.
Renowned as one of the most beautiful great choral works, Maurice Duruflé’s Requiem brings the peaceful balance of Gregorian chant into delicate modern harmonies. It is a flowing, luminous work that touches listeners and singers deeply. The Requiem is performed with strings, harp and organ. Soloists Kindra Scharich and Phillip Harris will also share solo pieces by Gabriel Fauré and Maurice Ravel. The concert finishes with a few shorter pieces about light including Norwegian composer Ola Gjeilo’s Luminous Night of the Soul, Morten Lauridsen’s Sure on this Shining Night and Moses Hogan’s uplifting arrangement of This Little Light of Mine.

LES MISÉRABLES
One of the most beloved works of the musical theater, “Les Mis” is based on Victor Hugo’s masterpiece of French literature. We will sing highlights from this endearingly popular show, in a program that should appeal to a wide-ranging audience.
